All of my paintings are acrylic on canvas.
I work from photographs that I have taken. I develop the film myself, make the prints myself, and then work from there. I prefer to take my own photographs as opposed to being given photos to paint, because I consider the photography to be such an integral part of the creative process.
I think it's very important for me to spend time with and truly observe a person before I paint them and a photo shoot allows me to do this. After the photos are developed, I will meet with my client to discuss the photo he/she wants painted. Typically, the process from the photo shoot to the finished piece can take anywhere from two weeks to two months.
I also custom build my own stretchers/canvases so the customer can choose his or her own dimensions for the painting.
